Pop-soul singer-songwriter Odette is certainly no stranger to making a darn good belt-out-loud song. She started writing her owns songs at the age of around seven or eight and since releasing her first two official singles in 2017 she's certainly made her mark on the Aussie music scene.

After an incredible performance at this year's Splendour in the Grass, the pop powerhouse is getting amped up for not one but two additional festival performances, this time at Yours & Owls Festival, held across two days in October at Stuart Park, NSW and South Australia's Handpicked Festival this November. We had the delightful opportunity to ask Odette a few questions ahead of her performances. Here's what she had to say...

So last year you dropped your debut album 'To a Stranger', congrats! I hear the album was in the works for a few years right? How did it feel to finally have the album out there in the world?

Thanks! Yeah, I had been writing a lot over the span of my adolescence to young adulthood. The record is sort of a time capsule I guess. It feels like I just wrote a history paper haha. No, it's been wonderful. To see how many people have connected with my songs has been incredible.

Typically most artists bring out an EP or two before they dish out an album. What lead you down the path of a full album release?

Honestly, I can't even remember. I think I just had so many songs and I didn't want to leave any of them behind. But also, knowing myself, it was probably the drama of it all.

You followed your debut album with a sold-out national headline tour in August of last year. It must be pretty surreal selling out an entire tour, hey?

It was literally ridiculous. I remember being so nervous and as soon as I got out on those stages it was like the crowd just knew what was up. We all had the best time!

Can you walk us through your typical pre-show ritual?

Drink a strong drink and pretend, pretend, pretend.

You also supported The Cat Empire on their Australian Tour late last year. What was it like being on tour with the band?

That was awesome! It was really cool to see all the brass players live. I envy their lung capacity and skill.

I see you're performing at Splendour in the Grass and Yours & Owls Festival very soon. What's next on the horizon?

I have new projects coming up! I can't wait to show everyone what I've been working on.
